Sparks fly over Maseratis at South Pacific Apec meeting

SYDNEY – Papua New Guinea has taken delivery of 40 luxury Maserati cars, valued around US$300,000 (S$412,300) each, to ferry world leaders around its capital Port Moresby during next month’s Asia-Pacific Economic Corporation (Apec) meeting, sparking anger on social media.

The majority of the population in the South Pacific island nation live subsistence lives and luxury cars are few and far between on its roads which often require four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles.
